We reviewed the past year engagement ring trends and explored the top engagement ring trends of 2021.
Diamond Shape
The start of 2020 saw Pear-Shaped Diamond Engagement rings as the hottest trend, from solitaire to halo settings. The end of 2020 and the beginning of 2021 saw Oval-shaped diamonds take over. We predict Oval-shaped engagement rings will be the biggest trend of 2021. However, with the increased demand for oval-shaped diamond engagement rings and the decreased supply due to COVID restrictions on diamond mining, oval-shaped diamond engagement rings will carry a heavier price. This limited availability will make oval diamond rings rarer and highly sought after.
Setting
Halo settings were the most popular setting of 2020. The small diamonds set around the centre diamonds add extra sparkle to your engagement ring and makes the centre diamond appear bigger. Halo setting will continue to be one of 2021’s most popular engagement ring designs, this is especially the case with Oval Halo Engagement rings. A new trend of 2021 will be the hidden halo, which is a sphere of small diamonds set under the centre stone, only visible from the side angle.
2020 saw the popularity of Rose Gold as the chosen metal for engagement rings, but 2021 will see Yellow Gold as the favourite metal for engagement rings and across all jewellery trends.
This year will see the comeback of more simplistic engagement ring designs, with the Solitaire Engagement ring . This timeless engagement ring setting will never go out of style and with the past chaotic year, an elegant solitaire is just what we need. Online Shopping
The pandemic supercharged online shopping trends and this did not exclude engagement rings. More and more couples are choosing remote engagement ring shopping experiences. From the comfort and safety of your home, it allows you to research, design or pick your perfect engagement ring and have it delivered to your door ready for the proposal. This is also the case with wedding bands, where couples are having expedited smaller weddings during lockdown or Zoom weddings. Jack Friedman offers free online engagement ring consultations.
Morganite engagement rings were the most popular gemstone engagement ring in 2020. The glassy pink colour mirrors a pink diamond and is perfect for the non-traditional bride . 2021 sees Emerald gemstone engagement rings as becoming increasingly popular, with green as the colour of 2021. Emeralds carry a high price tag, the darker the emerald the more valuable it will be. Peridot engagement rings offer a lower price tag but just as striking colour. We do not recommend Emerald and Peridot engagement rings for every day use or a bride with a hands-on job, as Emerald and Peridot are a softer stone and can scratch easily. Alternative green gemstone engagement rings that can be worn everyday are Green Tourmaline, Green Garnet and Green Sapphire. We predict the bright green colour of these gemstones will take engagement rings by storm.
